Buckingham Palace holds crucial talks as major announcement looms
Concerns over King Charles III’s upcoming visit to the United States have intensified following a shocking security incident in Washington, prompting urgent discussions between the UK government and Buckingham Palace.
The monarch is scheduled to begin his US tour on April 27 alongside Queen Camilla, but recent events have raised questions about his safety. A shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner — where a gunman opened fire before being subdued by security — has heightened public anxiety about high-profile visits.
Despite growing concern, officials have moved to reassure the public that the King’s protection remains a top priority. While Buckingham Palace has yet to release an official statement, UK Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones addressed the situation during an interview with Sky News.
“These are remarkable scenes,” Jones said, referring to the incident in Washington. He confirmed that Prime Minister Keir Starmer had expressed solidarity with the United States following the attack.
“As you would expect, with the visit of His Majesty the King this week, our teams are working closely to ensure that security arrangements are appropriately in place,” he added.
Jones also emphasized that the government and royal household are taking the matter seriously, noting that extensive discussions are already underway and will continue in the coming days.
Although no changes have been formally announced, it is expected that Buckingham Palace will soon provide an update on the King’s itinerary — including whether the tour will proceed as planned or be adjusted in light of the recent security concerns.
